About Us

Garment Making and Fashion Design is one of the technical departments in Archbishop Okoth VTC. The department trains in various Textile courses which are designed to prepare trainees for self-employment. The department has 2 Lecturers, a spacious classrooms and a well-equipped workshop with both electrical and manual machines to suit the training needs of our Students. Courses undertaken in the department include craft in Garment Making, Tailoring, Dressmaking, and Interior Decoration which includes embroidery. The trainees go for attachment to Textile industries after their Second year of learning. They also go for academic tours in the course of their training. The Department has a Production Unit which majors in the making Dust-coats, Overalls, Chef Suits, and Uniforms for the school and these are sold at quite a fair price to both the students and any other client from outside the institute.

DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

  1. Training craftsmen and artisans for self-employment with strong component of entrepreneurship skill
  2. Training craftsmen for employment in the industry
  3. Conducting demand –oriented (tailor-made) short term courses aimed at upgrading product quality, skills and technologies in the textile area.
  4. Ensuring cleanliness of the classes and workshops to have a conducive working environment.
  5. Guiding and Counseling the trainees to ensure discipline

Methodology

Creating fashion doesn’t just entail a vivid imagination and instinct for creativity. It also involves many decisions and myriad techniques, focused on a central idea. Archbishop Okoth VTC Fashion Design course builds a strong, foundation in terms of design sense, conceptualization, independent research, creative application and individual artistic expression.

Fashion design runs the gamut from evening wear to sportswear, women’s wear to menswear, and kids wear to knitwear. Students are asked to choose their area of interest and sharpen their creative ideas. Students are also introduced to various historic fashion and art movements as exemplars and how these influence contemporary fashion.
